The moment we started zooming in on finding leadership talent for scale-ups
When I founded One. last year together with my team, we set out on a mission to help scale-ups and grown-ups grow. With 20 years of experience in our bags, we didn’t want to stop just there. Our ambition knew no bounds and so we went on a quest to fix the recruitment game altogether. The name One. manifested what we believed: we can only fix it together with our clients.
Here is what we learned:
Our clients are crazy fast growing scale-ups, who are creating disruptive solutions to all sorts of existing problems from onboarding new employees to SME lending. And, you guessed it, none of them owns the recruitment game. Our clients need us to find them great leaders that will help them turn their ideas into world-changing businesses. So that’s exactly what we did, and do. Quite successfully.
It all boils down to this:
Why should one care about the inner workings of the chocolate factory if all one needed was fantastic chocolate?
Because the fantastic chocolate is what we have. It’s the great leaders that are part of our Little Black Book. The people that trust us with their businesses and their careers, and that we work tirelessly on cultivating and satisfying.
That's why we refocused on what's truly important:
We realised that to tell our own story effectively, we had to turn the focus away from ourselves, to the scale-ups and corporate ventures that we were partnering with. What we needed was a pivot - not a dramatic one, but one that would bring focus to One’s strengths and vision.
Don’t get me wrong, we still offer the full breadth of services, from recruitment strategy setting, to process creation, employer branding, screening, and hiring for scale-ups. What we understood a year into One. however, is that our clients flocked to us not solely for our understanding of recruiting in the hypergrowth world, but for the quality people that we are connected to. Likewise, highly-experienced professionals joined us for our considered career matching and the growth opportunities that our network offers. It’s exactly this trust that fuels One, and that we aim to deliver against. It’s at the heart of what we do, what we are passionate about and what our story needed to reflect. And that's how we got to where we are now:
So, our pivot isn’t a big bang moment, but more of a natural evolution towards our own product/market fit. We decided to zoom in on what we are extremely passionate about and successful at: Connecting leaders with eachother, to grow their businesses and their careers as One.
Pivoting seems like a rite of passage, one that we have seen many of our own clients conquer on their road from good to great, from start-up to scale-up. Their key ingredient? Great talent - whether that’s experienced marketing and communications professionals like in our own case, or product, technology and sales leaders.
Truth is, in the fast-paced, high-stakes world of scale-ups, pedigree is great, but it’s results that count. You need people that are vetted. Experienced professionals that know how to deliver in a high-growth environment. But more importantly, people that fit your unique vision and the company culture, and that grow with you to the next stage, and beyond.
